Efforts to prepare children for kindergarten
First A.M.E. Child Development Center uses a nationally-recognized, outcomes-oriented curriculum – The Creative Curriculum® – and the assessment tool, Teaching Strategy Gold®. Throughout the course of the year, teachers measure each child’s progress in eight school readiness domains including language development, literacy, mathematics, science, creative arts, social and emotional development, approaches toward learning and physical health and development. Child outcomes are reported in the Teaching Strategy Gold®.
In addition, families are prepared for an effective transition to kindergarten and empowered to be involved in their children’s education. A collaborative partnership between FAME CDC and Seattle Public Schools is important in helping children and families with a smooth transition. Important transition activities have included holding a “Community Kindergarten Transition” parent event with a representative from Seattle Public Schools, and informing parents of the kindergarten registration process. Also, Center child and family advocates are available to assist families in the kindergarten registration process.
