Policy Council (PC) is a group of parents and community members who meet monthly and work closely with the Head Start director and staff. Furthermore the PC is a formal structure of shared governance through which parents can participate in policy making or in other decisions about the program. The Policy Council helps to decide policies, budgets and plans that will affect all Head Start and Early Head Start families and staff that are part of the FAME CDC agency.
More than 50% of the Policy Council members have a child or children in the FAME CDC Head Start or Early Head Start program. All members are elected by fellow parents at all 3 centers (CWB, DH and SVI) as well as the Home-based program. Community representatives can be past parents that want to give back to the program by offering their experience as a Head Start parent or can be people from the community that work in the education, family services, health, or any other related field and have an interest in Head Start.
