LEAD TEACHER (1 EHS Lead Teacher opening at SVI)

First A.M.E. Child Development Center is currently searching for an experienced Early Head Start Lead Teacher who is passionate about working with infants and toddlers, and committed to empowering children and their families.

Through its Head Start and Early Head Start programs, FAME CDC has provided comprehensive, high-quality developmental services to the low-income children and families of central and south Seattle since 1980. These services include disability and
mental health services, health and nutrition, transportation, and social services as well as early childhood education.

The Lead Teacher position will begin September 4, 2012. It is located at our center at the Seattle Vocational Institute, in Seattle’s Central District. This position is full-time and qualifies for employer-paid benefits including excellent medical, dental, and vision benefits for employees; life and long-term disability insurance; and paid leave for winter and spring breaks.

The Lead Teacher is responsible for all aspects of day-to-day classroom operations, including: organizing age-appropriate activities for the children; weekly lesson planning; directing the arrangement of the classroom environment according to the
Reggio Emilia philosophy; recruiting, training, and supervising classroom volunteers; developing and implementing goals for the children based on classroom observation; planning and conducting home visits, conferences, and meetings with parents; setting
standards for classroom discipline; making appropriate referrals upon recognition of any family’s or child’s special needs or mental health concerns; recruiting parents for active participation in Head Start Policy Council and Parent Committee meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:
A Child Development Associate credential (CDA) with Infant/Toddler endorsement, or equivalent, and training in early childhood development, with a Head Start Act mandate to obtain additional training in early childhood development with a focus
on infants and toddlers no later than September 30, 2012.

Proof of completion of 20 hours STARS Basic Training or exemption from that training.

Must have a Washington State Driver’s License, current car insurance, and reliable transportation to perform assigned responsibilities.

Successful candidate must undergo Washington State Patrol and Department of Early Learning background checks.
